Roles.

A job, with a record. A role belongs to a department, has a job description, works under its mandates and keeps a performance record made of its receipts.

A role is a job, with a record.

A role is legible to anyone who has run a business. The credit controller chases what is owed. The lettings coordinator keeps viewings, listings and tenants moving. The onboarding clerk takes a new person from the first invitation to the first invoice.

Each belongs to one department, has a written job description, works under the mandates that department holds, and keeps a performance record. That record is nothing more or less than its receipts.

It asks before anything that matters.

A role is not an employee and is not sold as one. It does the work in the systems its department is equipped with, and every protected action stops and waits for a person: sending a reminder, issuing a credit note, changing a listing.

The approval is bound to the exact action, so a changed instruction cannot ride on an earlier decision. What the role did, what it waited for and what it cost are on the receipt, filed in the department.

Invoices and statements to chase. The mandate card on the panel says what the role may do today, and no more.

What exists today, and what is next.

Today the first roles are being built on Elementary's own departments: the credit controller on Elementary's own invoices first. No role is offered to customers yet, and none will be until it has run on our own books.

Next, roles become products: a job description, a default mandate and a performance record, sold inside a department and priced by the run. That follows mandates and the ledger.
